COVID-19 and your travel insurance

Information for customers who have purchased travel insurance through an advisor or have travel coverage as members of an association (e.g. alumni groups, professional organizations, retiree organizations, financial institutions, retailers).

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the travel plans of millions of Canadians – including many of our customers. Here is some helpful information – especially for those with travel insurance coverage.

If you’ve been travelling out of Canada since before March 13, 2020.

The guidance of the Canadian Government since the onset of the pandemic is for travelling Canadians to return home. Getting back may be a challenge that causes you concern about the potential impact to your Manulife individual travel insurance coverage purchased prior to your departure

If you are out of country and your coverage has expired, you can purchase a new policy directly from Manulife that excludes coverage for COVID-19 related claims. Call 1-844-378-3891, or email Protecting your personal information and respecting your privacy is important to us; please do not include any sensitive person information such as your policy number or date of birth when emailing.

If you are travelling and have a Travel Insurance Policy in effect, your coverage will remain in place for its full duration according to its terms and conditions.

Wherever you may be, we strongly encourage you to support and adhere to the advice of the medical professionals and authorities in your home region and of the area(s) you are in at this time. If you purchased travel insurance after March 13, 2020 or plan to travel soon.

As of March 5, 2020, Manulife has determined that COVID-19 is considered a known event and the applicable limitations and exclusion will be applied for policies issued on or after this date.
