Manulife CoverMe® Student Travel Insurance

Are you an international student coming to Canada? Or a Canadian studying abroad or out-of-province? Don’t break your budget: let us help cover your health care expenses so you don’t have to pay out-of-pocket. Get comprehensive student travel insurance for unexpected and routine health care expenses with Manulife CoverMe Travel Insurance for Students.

All our plans for students come with the following benefits:

  • Access to Manulife’s Travel Assistance 24/7 – 365 days a year – wherever you are in the world
  • Full refund for medical plans before your effective date if you change your mind
  • Pause your coverage for up to 60 days without terminating it

The Canadian government does not specifically require student travel health insurance when international students apply for a study permit. However, it is often required by designated learning institutions (DLI) before they can enroll you as a student and grant you a letter of acceptance.

As an international student studying abroad, you are not covered under the provincial health insurance plan. This means that, without travel insurance, you will have to pay out-of-pocket for visits to the physician for check-ups, prescription drugs, ambulance, hospital stays and other health care-related expenses.

Any pre-existing medical conditions that have not remained stable in the 3 months leading up to the effective date are not covered by travel insurance for students.

For Manulife’s travel insurance for students, a medical condition is considered stable when all the following statements are true:

  • No new treatment has been prescribed or recommended, and there have been no change(s) to existing treatment (including a stoppage in treatment).
  • There have been no changes in medication and no recommendation to start or starting of a new prescription drug.
  • The medical condition has not worsened.
  • There have not been any new, more frequent or more severe symptoms.
  • There has been no hospitalization nor referral to a specialist.
  • There have not been any tests, investigations nor treatments recommended and incomplete.
  • There are no outstanding test results.
  • There is no planned or pending treatment.

All the above conditions must be met for a medical condition to be considered stable. Please review the conditions above very carefully before you purchase travel insurance for students and leave your home country to study abroad.
