Transition Strategy – Exceptional Access Program (EAP)
To help ensure a smooth transition from private plans to OHIP+ for children and youth age 24 years and under beginning January 1, 2018:
- Manulife, like other Canadian private insurers will continue to consider coverage for the following categories of Exceptional Access Program (EAP) drugs during the transition period of January 1 – June 30, 2018:
- Antibiotics and anti-infectives
- Blood thinners
- Drugs with low EAP approval rates
This transition period will give physicians or nurse practitioners time to submit EAP drug applications on their patient’s behalf.
For any EAP drugs that are not part of the transition period Manulife will require application to the EAP. Manulife will require proof of the EAP decision before considering coverage. However, we will allow a grace period from January 1, 2018 to February 28, 2018 to prevent interruption in drug coverage for existing claimants.
